Background of New Thought

Mondays, starting on July 28th

7:00 to 9:00 pm EST - Tele-bridge

Unity has been part of the so-called “New Thought” movement since the 19th century when this phenomenon seemingly burgeoned. This S.E.E. class will explore the origins and the development of the ideas and beliefs that characterize this “movement”. Using Charles S. Braden’s book Spirits in Rebellion the class will receive a definition of what New Thought is and is not. Students will learn about several key figures and what they contributed to this movement then we will explore the similarities and the differences between the various New Thought churches. Of particular interest will be the finding out what the Unity movement is currently doing. Prosperity

Sundays, August 31st through September 28th

11:30 am to 1:30 pm - Fellowship Hall

Prosperity is based on the thoughts and ideas of two of Unity’s greatest teachers and metaphysicians, Charles Fillmore and Eric Butterworth. In this course, students will compare and contrast the ideas of these two great teachers as they study Substance, the activity of mind, faith, visualization, the truth about money, the meaning of developing a giving consciousness, and the way to replace a consciousness of lack with a lasting consciousness of abundance. This course will assist students as they explore ways to use these prospering ideas in their daily lives.

Offered on love offering basis, this group meets every Wednesday at 10:30 am in the Fireplace Room. Everyone is welcome to join them anytime. Go to Publications and click on the Sunday Bulletin to find out what book and what chapter they are currently discussing.

New To Unity?

If you are new to Unity and would like to know a bit more about what we believe and what the Unity movement is (beyond what you got in your Welcome Packet) there are several books in our bookstore we would recommend to assist you to learn more about us. A truly classic text is Emilie Cady’s Lessons In Truth another wonderful book is James Dillet Freeman’s The Story of Unity and there is also Eric Butterworth’s book Unity a Quest for Truth. These, and other Unity books are available in our bookstore.
